Alors vous risquez d\u2019appr\u00e9cier le portrait de Tommaso Debenedetti, un enseignant et ancien journaliste italien r\u00e9put\u00e9 pour avoir pass\u00e9 plus d\u2019une d\u00e9cennie \u00e0 diffuser de fausses informations en ligne dans l\u2019optique de d\u00e9cr\u00e9dibiliser le milieu journalistique et ses principaux acteurs qui, souvent, se font prendre au pi\u00e8ge. Retour sur les motivations et la d\u00e9marche de l\u2019homme qui est consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme \u00ab <em>le plus grand menteur d\u2019Internet<\/em> \u00bb.<\/p>\n\n<p>Avec un grand-p\u00e8re puis un p\u00e8re \u00e9crivains et journalistes, Tommaso Debenedetti ne d\u00e9niche pas sa qualit\u00e9 de plume et sa ma\u00eetrise de l\u2019art du storytelling de nulle part. N\u00e9 en 1969, il se destine d\u2019abord \u00e0 une carri\u00e8re journalistique, comme pour se fier, semblerait-il, aux coutumes familiales. Puis, l\u2019\u00e9mergence d\u2019Internet et la mainmise progressive des r\u00e9seaux sociaux num\u00e9riques dans la diffusion et le relais d\u2019informations en ligne incitent Tommaso Debenedetti \u00e0 se pencher davantage sur le sujet des <em>fake news<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n<p>En 2010, il d\u00e9cide alors de cr\u00e9er lui-m\u00eame de faux comptes sur <em>X <\/em>(<em>ex-Twitter<\/em>) et de diffuser de fausses informations afin, dans un premier temps, de constater la fa\u00e7on dont elles sont accueillies et\/ou reprises dans la sph\u00e8re journalistique et informationnelle. Coup de poker : nombreux sont ceux qui tombent dans le panneau. Tommaso Debenedetti s\u2019appuie donc sur cette m\u00e9thode \u00ab <em>pour alerter sur la faiblesse des m\u00e9dias <\/em>\u00bb et pour d\u00e9montrer que \u00ab <em>la presse est victime de fausses nouvelles parce qu&rsquo;elle veut aller trop vite<\/em> \u00bb. Une pratique qu\u2019il applique pendant plus de dix ans et qui l\u2019aura vu monter de toute pi\u00e8ce et publier environ soixante-dix fausses interviews de personnalit\u00e9s m\u00e9diatiques de tout horizon entre 2010 et 2024. L\u2019anecdote la plus c\u00e9l\u00e8bre reste celle de Philip Roth. En 2010, ce dernier avait \u00e9t\u00e9 interview\u00e9 par une journaliste italienne qui l\u2019avait interrog\u00e9 sur les propos qu\u2019il avait pr\u00e9tendument tenus \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9gard du pr\u00e9sident Barack Obama. Bien entendu, ces propos n\u2019\u00e9taient jamais sortis de la bouche de l\u2019\u00e9crivain, mais uniquement de l\u2019imagination de Tommaso Debenedetti, responsable quelques mois plus t\u00f4t de la publication d\u2019un faux entretien pour le <em>Libero<\/em>, un quotidien milanais.<\/p>\n\n<p>Tommaso Debenedetti est aujourd\u2019hui professeur de litt\u00e9rature italienne \u00e0 Rome. Il maintient un regard \u00e0 la fois curieux, amus\u00e9 et alarmant sur la propagation et la viralit\u00e9 des fausses informations qui circulent librement et facilement dans une soci\u00e9t\u00e9 marqu\u00e9e par la culture de l\u2019instantan\u00e9it\u00e9. Sa d\u00e9marche atypique a permis, selon lui, de mettre en lumi\u00e8re le manque de v\u00e9rification inqui\u00e9tant des informations diffus\u00e9es par les m\u00e9dias traditionnels sur les r\u00e9seaux sociaux. Au premier trimestre 2024, le professeur italien a par ailleurs r\u00e9affirm\u00e9 \u00e0 la <em>Revue des m\u00e9dias<\/em> de l\u2019<em>INA<\/em> son intention de continuer \u00e0 cr\u00e9er des faux comptes pour divulguer des \u00ab <em>mensonges <\/em>\u00bb sur les r\u00e9seaux.
